Construction workers on the Olympics sites in London are to be screened using palm and face recognition techniques.
Each of the workers which are on the site, up to 10,000 at a time, are to be subjected to the checks in one of the most expensive security measures used on a UK construction site.
It is thought that the same biometric testing is being considered for the ticket holders who will be attending the Games.
This week, the Olympic security coordinator, Tarique Ghaffur, revealed that up to 500,000 CCTV cameras could be used to police the Games.
Mr Ghaffur said: "Efforts focus on the capabilities we currently have and how these can be used efficiently to make London safer both now and during Games time.
A good example of this is how the current capabilities of various CCTV networks might be harnessed and integrated in London within the current legislative framework."
