Construction jobs on Liverpool Football Club's new stadium at Stanley Park are set to begin after the city council granted the project full planning permission.

A 60,000-seater stadium is set to be built on the site, which is adjacent to the club's current home, while outline planning permission has also been given for a mixed use development on the existing Anfield site, the official Liverpool FC website reports.

Laing O'Rourke has now begun enabling works to prepare the site for forthcoming construction jobs.

Co-chairman George Gillett said the club is delighted to have been given full planning permission for the new stadium and to get on site.

Fellow chairman Tom Hicks added: "We have watched the council transform Stanley Park over the last six months and the ongoing refurbishment of houses in the Anfield area.

"I am pleased that now the club has received full planning permission it can join the regeneration process with the new commencement of enabling works."

Portsmouth Football Club recently revealed the development of its new stadium in the harbour area of the city will create thousands of construction jobs.
